The making of soap

All soaps crafted by HÅND are made using the traditional ‘cold process method’. One of the main benefits of cold process soap making – and the reason we chose this method – is that it makes it possible to preserve the qualities of each ingredient.

Cold process soap making involves mixing fixed oils (common oils like coconut and olive) with an alkali (sodium hydroxide or lye). The result is a chemical process called saponification, where the composition of the oils changes with the help of the lye to create a solid bar of soap. This is a completely natural process, and when it is complete, the lye is no longer present. What you have left is pure, natural nourishment for your skin. It’s as simple as that!

With the cold process method we create high-quality, gentle soaps that are ideal for all skin types, sensitive skin and skin conditions. All of our soaps are super fatted, which means that we have added an excess of quality oils and butters to our formulas. This means our soaps not only clean but also nourish and moisturize a little bit extra for simply great care of your skin!
